Frequently asked questions

Why is our military important?

Our military protects all of us. They have a commitment to service and volunteer throughout our communities. They provide support during and after natural disasters. Service members have compassion for all of our citizens. It is more than a job, it is a way of life.

What can Patti Hale-Ashe do for military members in regards to finance?

There are many areas where government can make cuts, not military salaries. Many service members and their families are living in poverty. Salary schedules need to be reviewed, to pay our service members a fair wage.

How can we support the physical and emotional wellbeing of our service members and veterans?

Our service members face the greatest horrors imaginable. when returning from war zones, we need to provide true behavioral health, not just medications. There are a number of therapies that are less invasive and more effective than medications and they do not have the risk of addiction. There is float therapy, animal therapy, acupuncture and acupressure. There is talk therapy, journaling and other counseling options. When transitioning from service to civilian life, a person can have anxiety and fear. Let's provide comprehensive transitioning. Assist members obtain a job, apartment, home, vocational training, budgeting, setting up utilities, obtaining furniture and connection with other veterans for support and guidance. Eliminate stressors for those who offered their lives to serve our country.

How can Patti Hale-Ashe help military families?

Patti Hale-Ashe knows of many service members who suffer marital stress. There are usually stigmas when a military member seeks counseling and are not given accommodations to attend therapy. They need to be able to attend couples or family therapy to avoid divorce, infidelity or domestic violence. There should be attempts to minimize family separation. When a service member is being stationed somewhere new, They should have mentors in the new unit assist with getting them on housing lists and other supports. This could minimize a 1 year wait for housing to bring your family down to a few short months. Our service members do everything they can for us, we should find ways to help them.

How can we make our military stronger?

We can eliminate waste, by requiring comprehensive and accurate inventories and receipts. If we secure contracts with lower cost suppliers, we can reduce cost. If we identify excessive inventories, we can reduce orders/cost and reallocate the excess to other units that need it. We need to replenish our arsenals to ensure we are at levels to protect our country and our allies. We have many outdated ships, planes and military vehicles. It would be in our countries best interest to produce modern transports. Our military is behind other countries in technology based defense. For example we are well behind Ukraine in drone technology. We could share weapons with Ukraine and they could teach us new technology.
